Holocaust remembrance day |
||
|
Yesterday I had the honour to attend the Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony at Woolwich town hall today. To solemnly honour the memory of the six million Jewish men, women, and children, who were brutally murdered during the Holocaust. To remember not only their suffering but also the lives, cultures, and futures that were stolen from the world. We also remember other conflicts and genocides that are and have affected our world. This year’s theme, “Bridging Generations,” reminds us that remembrance is a shared responsibility that must be carried forward across time. As survivor voices grow fewer, it becomes ever more important for us to listen, learn, and pass on these stories, ensuring that the lessons of the Holocaust continue to guide future generations in standing against hatred, prejudice, and injustice. Working in Greenwich, a proudly multicultural borough, gives this day particular significance. Our community is enriched by people of many faiths, backgrounds, and lived experiences, coming together in mutual respect. The attendance of community leaders at today’s remembrance reflects a shared commitment to unity, understanding, and collective responsibility. Their presence reinforces the importance of leadership in promoting tolerance, inclusion, and dialogue across communities. That will make Greenwich a safer and better place to live. | ||
